BS5306-9 requires fire extinguishers to be supplied and commissioned by a ‘competent person’.

An extinguisher is a pressurised canister containing various ‘mediums’ which, if not commissioned and installed correctly could result in the unit malfunctioning upon use. This could cause serious injury and potentially a personal injury claim.

There are several types of extinguishers which are used to combat different fires. A Fire Risk Assessment would confirm the required type and amount of units that need to be installed to areas of fire risk in conjunction with other fire safety measures such as fire alarm system, emergency lighting and identifying the means of escape.
